Dimples Mom

Who am I you might wonder? Well?I might just happen to be the mom next door! Caring and compassionate, loving and totally stressed, I am the everyday modern mom who is in constant search of the latest and greatest things for my children, tips for my sanity and suggestions on how to make the most of my ?mommy hood? experiences. (I?m still young and know how to have fun?just wanted to throw that in there also, hehe).

I started this blog as a way to reach out to other moms and caregivers, who are also working hard, figuring things out as the come and looking for supportive people whom they can relate to. I chose Dimples as the perfect forum for this because of their overall philosophy on family and how much I was able to share with them simply by being a customer.

I welcome all your comments, feedback, questions and even blog suggestions!!

Dayna Klinger, Co-Owner of Dimples

As a child growing up in New Jersey Dayna dreamed of owning a boutique and being involved in the design process. “I always loved the idea of getting to create something,” said Dayna who has two young boys, as well as a teenage stepson. For college, however, Dayna took a very pragmatic approach to getting involved in the “how to’s” of business by majoring in finance at Stern College in New York City. There she met her Dimples partner Cindy Merrill and the two instantly bonded. Even after school ended and both women found their respective spouses, they continued to stay close friends. “It was Cindy who got me to move out here,” joked Dayna who has been married for 10 years. Once in suburbia, Dayna realized that motherhood and family were her primary goals, which was the catalyst behind her involvement in Dimples. “I wanted to be a mother and have time for my family and Cindy shared the same passion.”

Together, four years ago, the pair opened the doors to the unique children and babies boutique Dimples, in Cedarhurst Long Island, within walking distance from both their houses. The store reflects their styles and appreciation for fine goods at affordable prices and they use their experiences as mothers in choosing and designing new products. I love being able to enjoy what I do and being able to balance both work and home. It?s a family store and it is a lot of fun!?

Cindy Merrill, Co-Owner Dimples

This cheerful mother of three grew up not too far from where she now helps to run one of the hottest stores in town. “I’m from Woodmere and went to school here. I’ve always shopped here, so I really understand our customer,” said Cindy, who received a degree in social work from Stern College and holds a Masters in early and elementary education from Adelphi University. But after seven years of teaching at a local preschool, this busy mom who is married to the boy she sat next to on her first plane ride back in high school, realized that she needed to switch careers so she could merge together her passion for motherhood, children and overall creativity. “I love that I get to spend lots of time with my family and still do things outside of the home that make me happy, such as setting up the store and doing buying. I like having my own thing.” The flexibility affords Cindy the opportunity to do unique events in the store, such as the weekly storytime that she runs free of charge. “I love getting to play teacher and opening up the store to people. It is a family store and we pride ourselves on that.” Future plans for the store include expanding to other areas, but only when the time is right. “I want to wait till all the kids are in school so everything can get the time it deserves. Everything is important.”
